Recorded Music in New York City

New York City is an exciting, vibrant hub for the arts that has long served as the global center for the recorded music industry. New York's vast cultural and artistic resources allow students to take learning far beyond the classroom walls and incorporate internships and part-time jobs related to their field of study.

Among New York's performing arts attractions: Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, which is the largest performing arts center in the world and home to twelve resident organizations; the Brooklyn Academy of Music, New York City Ballet and the Jazz Foundation of America.

The Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music is located in the heart of New York's NYU/Greenwich Village area, in the Noho/Washington Square Park neighborhood. Famous recording artists, spanning genres like hip-hop and folk music, created some of their best work only blocks from this location, in now departed venues like The Mercer Arts Center (home to the New York Dolls) and CBGB's (Patti Smith, Television, The Ramones). Today, major jazz clubs like Sweet Rhythm and The Blue Note are only blocks away, and world music clubs like S.O.B.s and rock clubs like The Bitter End and The Lion's Den are also within walking distance.
